One Word for 2013: LEAP

If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go in business because we’d be cynical: ‘It’s gonna go wrong.’ Or ‘She’s going to hurt me.’ Or ‘I had a couple of bad love affairs so therefore …’

Well, that’s nonsense. You’re going to miss life. You’ve got to jump off the cliff all the time and build your wings on the way down.

Back at the beginning of the year, when normal people begin new things, the overwhelming trend was deciding on your “one word” for 2013.

My “one word” was LEAP. I’m one of those people who suffer from paralysis by analysis. I pick and pick and stress and worry and comparison shop and basically waste a shit ton of time, considering that I almost always go with my first instinct anyway. All that extra time is just me undermining and second-guessing myself.

One such example is this here blog. I bought the domain a looooong time ago. The blog design was done probably a year ago.

The launching? I was aiming for Jan 1 2013.

Today is April 1 2013.

This is my April Fool’s gift to myself.

I’m leaping. Ready or not. Here we go.

Leaping takes confidence. It takes faith that you can build wings on the way down.

But look at photos of anyone leaping: you’ll see fear. You’ll see excitement. You’ll see exhilaration and joy.

You won’t see boredom or stagnation or furrowed brow.

Leaping is living, and that’s what I need right now.
